3 indispensable skills you have to master

Some skills are relevant to your social life and some of them are necessary for your career… However, there are some of them that you should apply both, in your personal and your work life. Thus, you will achieve much more and you will have all the control in your hands.

Let’s start with time management. It is extremely important at work, where you have to meet the deadline quite often, especially in a nowadays world where everybody is hustling. Yet it is not less important in your personal life! Great time management skills add quality to your life: you tend to put things in order more often, you tend to get a better amount of sleep (which is awesome) and most importantly, you become great at finding the right work/life balance! In fact, good time management skills usually show that you become the more and more amazing at adulting, so keep it this way!

Moreover, you should have a positive self-talk daily! This is always helpful both, in your career and your personal life. Positive self-talk encourages you to become a little bit better every day and asks you to look at the bright side of things. I once heard an amazing thought that words are like seeds: what you put in the soil, that will grow. So build your confidence! And if you want a good change, encourage that change and please, mind your language because it can be pretty powerful!

Finally, it is necessary for us to learn to ask for help. It does not mean you are weak. Instead, it demonstrates your strength to admit that you are not a superhero that knows everything in this world. Because none of us are. Asking for help also gives you a chance to build a relationship with others as you have to work with other people more closely. It is applicable in your career as well as at home because asking for kelp adds some universal knowledge that we all can learn something from the other.

It seems that the whole world is turning with and for the extroverts. It seems that you can achieve great results only when you are loud, rowdy and straightforward. Good news is: this is false! Introverts can achieve as much (if not more) as extroverts do because they own some indispensable skills. WiPjobs has read an interesting article on themuse.com and has listened to an inspiring TED talk, so let‘s talk about introversion today!

As you know, there are two kinds of characters in general: extroverts and introverts (besides the ambiverts in the middle).

Introversion is usually perceived as shyness and social awkwardness but it is not true. The truth about introverts is that they know how to enjoy their own company, they have to have some alone time to recharge their energy resources and they tend to be less loud. As Susan Cain mentions in her TED talk, shyness is a fear of personal judgment and this is not the case of introverts.

Besides, as introverts are better at spending time alone, they are better at focusing on their tasks: they tend to have more patience and so, more willingness to achieve a result of good quality. Introversion is also helpful for the creativity: as we usually do the creative work individually. Introverted people are great at managing their tasks independently as well.

However, it does not mean that introverts must work all by themselves and not talk with anyone. No! It only means that they must be appreciated and heard just as well as everyone else.

If you are an introvert at the office reading this: we‘d like to encourage you to be yourself!

• Have some alone time if you feel like it (for instance, during the breaks)!
• Yet create a circle of people you enjoy spending time with – because people are great if you choose the right ones to surround you.
• Get the job that would be enjoyable and let your creative powers bloom!
• Know your worth and be brave to appreciate who you are.

Because there‘s a place for every one of us on the Earth: just be you and you will eventually find it! (Even if you are an introvert in a nowadays office!)

The emotional intelligence (EQ) is one’s ability to identify and express his/her emotions properly. It involves the awareness that there is a large range of how you feel and it is absolutely normal (even though the feeling itself might be negative). Nowadays, the emotional intelligence matters the more and more and it becomes appreciated as well as the IQ.

However, let’s talk about what makes the EQ important at work!

• Dealing with stressful situations is easier for people you are able to recognize and cope with their emotions. Emotionally intelligent people are more likely to become a part of a constantly changing environment.
• Communication tends to be more open as people with a high EQ understand others and are more  willing to accept different people with various points of view.
• Empathy. As emotionally intelligent people are great at perceiving their own emotions and feelings, they also tend to be empathetic toward others. They try to hear what the other is saying and other’s state of mind really matters to them.
• Usually, people with a high level of EQ are better at staying calm and handling a situation so they are capable of leading a team. Those people are also more likely to understand that things can have different results and we have to be able to deal with them no matter what.

Emotional intelligence is just as important as the IQ. We should try to merge these two qualities together in order to achieve the best results of our work. As emotional intelligence really is a key to a good teamwork and a right dialogue, it must be even more appreciated in the future. First of all, let’s agree that finding out what we enjoy doing is truly important. But let’s not overestimate it! In the whole work process, we must stay all the way creative and appreciate the details that make the tasks enjoyable. For instance, if your hobby is blogging and you enjoy creating contents in your spare time, it does not necessarily mean that you must work for an advertising company. You could surely enjoy creating summaries for business and market exploration as well! The point is that the substance of loving your job lays in the little details.

In addition, one must be patient and determined. It is the truth of life in general and the career doesn’t make an exception. Work requires patience: we have to work patiently and we have to work hard to become good at whatever it is we are doing. The satisfaction comes much more easily with excellence so let’s prepare to work hard in order to master it in the end!

Lastly, it is indispensable to choose carefully and to be selective according to our own values. The more our values coincide with the ones of the company we are working for, the better we feel there. It is extremely important for our emotional stability and for our motivation to do great work. Let’s try to make something better each day because positive changes give us moral satisfaction!

Stay focused!

We have all experienced the situation when concentrating in order to get the work done seems to be the hardest part. It comes all the way with some kind of laziness and procrastination which are not at all helpful when the deadline is approaching. Yet we can always think of some strategies to improve our ability to focus, and these can be some easily applicable ones. Www.mindtools.com has suggested some tips regarding the phenomenon of concentration that WiPjobs would also like to share with you because staying focused while at work means staying productive.

First of all, take care of your environment!

• Comfortable workplace – Set your chair and desk comfortably in order not to focus on your physical position.
• Peaceful sounds – If you are not a “total silence” person, try reducing background noises by listening to some calm instrumental songs. Some people say that nature sounds (like flowing river or wind blowing) are the best when you need to stay focused and to forget the background.

Remember the nutrition, too!

• Water – Keep in mind that our brains work the best when they get sufficiently hydrated. Hydration intensifies their performance.
• Breakfast – Taking nutritious breakfast will give you the energy to start a day and will wake up your brain.
• Movement – When taking a break, get up from your desk and walk at least around the office: walking boosts your brain and it helps you stay efficient. If you have a possibility to go outside during the break, grab it and breathe in some fresh air. Remember: one hour of work usually requires ~5 minutes of pause.

And then, lower distractions!

• Time management – Manage time to deal with problems: write down the issues that keep you worried and determine the time to fix those problems. Having a schedule is always helpful in order to stay focused because it gives you a clear vision of all your tasks.
• Unitasking – Even if the ability to multitask is considered as a bonus in the job interview, multitasking really keeps you from focusing on your work. If you need quality, normally, you can do well one task at a time. In addition, while working on the only task, you waste less time on trying to concentrate again. P.S. avoid checking your emails while getting some other work done. 😉
• Differentiate the tasks – Try finding the golden mean between high-attention and low-attention tasks. When you get some serious work done, start doing the task that demands less concentration in order to help your brain take a rest. Remember, you can always have a little pleasure for yourself after you complete an important task. It keeps one even more motivated!
• The level of importance – Know which task is more important than the other. Start prioritizing by making a list which will be very helpful to avoid procrastination because we all know: sometimes when you have loads of work to do, you do not do any of it because it’s just too much.

Staying focused leads to being efficient and accomplishing your work. Accomplishing your work leads to being happy of yourself and of what you are doing. This means staying focused can help you feel better and be proud of yourself! So be it!

We all recognize those moments where one lacks productivity. It‘s not that difficult in nowadays life: there are a lot of distractions and usually, a lot of tasks to handle, that it becomes a struggle to complete every single of it well and on time. That is quite casual and yet the life would be much easier if we managed everything efficiently. Thus, WiPjobs suggests you some tips in order to maintain or increase your productivity level.

• Manage your time consciously: doing a lot of small things (aka multitasking), like responding to emails while working on some project, is not a good idea if you want to achieve efficiency at work. Do what you really have to do in that precious moment.
• Avoid looking/being too busy with a lot of things: busyness is our own illusion that we work hard and that the world appreciates it. According to Sociologist Christine Carter, “Busyness is not a marker of intelligence, importance, or success. Taken to an extreme, it is much more likely a marker of conformity or powerlessness or fear.” In reality, being too busy means leaving a lot of things only partially done because one person cannot solve every, little or big, problem of the company. And one doesn‘t have to!
• Identify what is an ideal employee in your head: forget the idea that the ideal one is someone who does not have any social life or any life at all beyond his job. Instead, the ideal one is someone who can manage his tasks with productivity and who knows that it also requires a normal amount of time to take a rest in order to maintain the good level of attention. The ideal employee can even work fewer hours than the average one if he is good at completing the tasks well and on time.
• Try leaving some things unfinished: it will add some playful spirit to the tasks you have to manage and, most importantly, it will help you have a different look at it. As you will surely continue thinking about the task, you will possibly have some different ideas about it, thus, you will be able to improve your work.
• Take some time off: it helps you see the work from a different angle and contemplate on new solutions which might be helpful in order to stay more productive with your future tasks.
• Remember that ‘no‘ is a normal word: you cannot agree to take every task on Earth and you do not have to (because too much to do usually is not much to do). Instead, you have to set your priorities.
• Recognize and appreciate the achievements you make: it can be a quite small thing but in perspective, it can be big enough. Writing down your goals and achievements is always helpful to see the progress and to keep you motivated.
• Have more time tomorrow by completing the tasks today: do not postpone any of the tasks to tomorrow if you are capable of doing it today. It will be helpful for your time management and  it will be a pleasure to have less work later.
